fort knox part 1

mining away the mountain
terraced garden of scree

--two tons of earth
to one ton of ore
--for one gold coin

the boreal knoll
reduced to a pile of sand

someday this will be
reclaimed

people will waterski
and learn to swim
in the pure and clean
arsenic leach field

in times of survival
gold is nothing but a rock
a burdensome weight

there is wealth unimagined
in the pockets of the dead

there is more gold
underground than
than in the vaults
of fort knox
